Project development and reconstruction (adaptation) of the Summer Theatre and square of «Molodezhny Theatre on Fontanka»

This project implementation shows an example of well-coordinated work of architects and builders: it was necessary to combine modern architecture, technologies and the theatre’s needs with elements under protection of the Committee for Landmark and Monuments protection (KGIOP). Therefore the famous Shukhov girders (metal structures of the end of XIX century) and two stone wings, having remained in their old place, became a part of the auditorium. Viewed from high point, the plan of the new building is similar to a classic cathedral plan. The new theatre can be figuratively divided into three parts – the wings, the central part, and the scenic box. These parts differ in their height, as well as in their architecture and functions. Reconstruction involved also the Izmailovsky garden.

The total area of the theatre – 4,670 sq. m.
